Louis D. Martinez served as Senior Consultant for the International Center for Leadership in Education Prior to his introduction to the Ysleta Community Learning Center, Mr. Martinez was superintendent of a 26,000-student school district in New Mexico; community superintendent in Montgomery County, MD; executive director of secondary education in Seattle WA, and high school principal in New Mexico and Maryland, as well as here in Texas. Mr. Martinez maintained the consultant position while practicing as a full-time public school educator, coach, and administrator.
Mr. Martinez began his public career as a presenter and later as National Director for Educational Character Development for the Josephson Institute of Ethics, the Character Counts! Organization. In addition, he worked in Chicago Public Schools as a consultant for the American Institutes for Research. He is a highly respected national speaker on issues of character development, accountability, closing the gap, and providing rigor, relevance, and relationships in schools and communities.
He has provided leadership for communities, districts, and schools in 21 states, as well as in Canada and Puerto Rico. He says that he is excited to be a part of AEL – because here he has learned to live the mission – “to deliver the foundational skills and career pathways transitions needed to support and prepare Texans to support their families, careers, and communities.”
